September 2022 Election
for World Assembly Delegate
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that in accordance with the Constitution and laws of the Social Liberal Union, an election for the office of World Assembly Delegate will be held for a period of one week within 48 hours after the close of nominations. Nominations open on Monday, 5th of September 2022 at 17:30 UTC and close on Monday, 12th of September 2022 at 15:30 UTC.
I, Helvurium, am serving as Election Administrator, and I will dutifully and impartially execute the duties and powers of this position to the best of my ability.
The term of office is four months, as specified in the certificate of election, which will be issued in due form once voting has concluded and the ballots are canvassed, tabulated, and certified according to law. The term for this office may only be renewed once consecutively.
QUALIFICATIONS AND NOMINATIONS:
Any Member State may, if eligible, nominate themselves for this office, or, subject to their acceptance, another eligible Member State. The requirements to hold the office are as follows:
1) Must be a current Member State in accordance with the Constitution; and 2) Must have been a Member State for at least three months; and 3) Must not have served two consecutive terms as World Assembly Delegate immediately preceding this election.
This Act authorizes the presentation of various orders, medals, and awards to eligible States that have served or otherwise made contributions to the Social Liberal Union, while recognizing and accounting for the various forms and degrees of deeds, milestones, and efforts that have molded the region into what it is today.
I invite you to read the full text of the bill to see the substantive provisions. Any feedback and suggestions are highly welcomed as the subject of this bill is quite far-reaching and covers many disciplines and areas in terms of awards, and makes very dramatic changes to the regional honors system, which I believe has become rather stagnant and unused. I will be posting a section-by-section explainer soon, and this bill will be subject to at least a week or two of scrutiny and likely some minor changes before any final 3-day debate period on a final draft.
The soon-to-be GA#620, "Protections During Territorial Transitions", is on track to pass the General Assembly as of the time of this post's writing. OWAA set out its reasoning for opposition in the dispatch on the resolution.
I'm going to try repealing it!
Quote:The General Assembly,
Bearing in mind the laudable intentions of GAR#620, "“Protections During Territorial Transitions”, with regards to protecting those left vulnerable by some forms of territorial transference between member states and,
Aware that this body should not refrain from future commitments to addressing many of the pertinent issues therein,
Nonetheless identifies a number of flaws with the aforementioned resolution which render it ineffectual and burdensome upon member states, such as:
The broad exception in the resolution’s second clause, which plausibly allows for inhabitants taking on representative or otherwise privileged roles within a community to obstruct others access to information on jurisdictional changes.
A lack of a rigorous, impartial compliance mechanism in the resolution’s fifth clause, via which any member state may feasibly claim for themselves to be overwhelmed under certain conditions, allowing for the shirking of the resolution’s third and fourth clauses without providing “other suitable, temporary measures” of any meaningful definition.
The malignant phrasing of the seventh clause of the resolution, which mandates that member states must either transfer any and all “rights, privileges, and duties” held by an affected inhabitant in the ceding state to the newly formed territoriality of the receiving state or, in the event the receiving state does not have such roles within their society, provide a “close equivalent”, even if a close equivalent to a role beholden to the rights, privileges, and duties of the ceding state’s inhabitants would be utterly alien to the receiving state; this goes so far as to undermine the resolution’s own ninth clause’s goal of fair acclimatization.
An inability on the part of the resolution’s twelfth clause to become operable upon non-member states, as among the provisions of the resolution which must be provided for are the definitions of the resolution’s first clause, which categorically exclude non-member states.
Hereby repeals General Assembly Resolution #620, "Protections During Territorial Transitions".
Any help, words of wisdom, advice, etc. is appreciated <3

I’m Erynia and Draconia and I’m running for Minister of Domestic Affairs!
Why am I running?
For the past few months, the Ministry of Domestic Affairs has seen a drought of activity other than the establishment of the Union Tribune Newsletter. As MoDA, I hope to change this and bring the ministry back to the vital role it plays in our growing region.
How am I have qualified?
I joined SLU politics back in June 2021 (a year ago) as Minister of Immigration. I served in the ministry until January 2022 when I was elected Chancellor. I was also appointed as Secretary of Communications where I helped create the Union Tribune Newsletter which has been operating monthly since its inception.
What will I do as MoDA?
- Keep the UT Newsletter running and hire new writers
- Bridge the gap between discord and gameside activity by keeping gameside players informed and encouraging them to join the discord
- Listen to Member State input! I highly value the opinions of our Member States and hope to have the ministry be as democratic and transparent as possible
- Give everyone free cookies!! Ok… maybe not, but the probability isn’t 0!
I am proposing Amendment 13 to the World Assembly Membership Requirement Waiver Resolution, which would grant a waiver to Goanya, the SLU resident state nation of a longtime and active member of our community and Discord server; previously known as Doge Land.
