This will be my eighth year as a member of these Social Liberal Unions, and this community has, in no small part, changed my life for the better. Since becoming a member, I have served in several government positions - from being a Deputy Minister to being a Delegate.
In the real world, I am actively involved in left-wing organising, particularly with my workplace union and my local tenant's union, where I am a branch secretary - a position eerily similar to being Speaker.
Why Speaker?
Out of every role that our region has, the Speaker is the one I am most passionate about. The ability to facilitate engaging elections, involve people more in our rich legal history, and maintain our near-unparalleled regional records is incredibly important essential to ensuring the continued success of our region.
Why Me?
Our region has its clear issues; particularly with engagement, and a legal structure which is excellent, but has various issues of comprehension. I believe that my knowledge of the Third Constitution makes me uniquely equipped to assist with the development of our Fourth Constitution.
Additionally, I strongly believe that my previous experience as Speaker will allow me to effectively facilitate engagement as we design our Fourth Constitution - making it a truly collective endeavour and one which will reflect the values and needs of our region.
What Will I Do?
Lead on facilitating our constitutional convention by;
- Producing regular roundups of ongoing discussion and agreed changes, to publish on our forums and the RMB;
- Running ‘spotlight sessions’ where a particular Article of the current Fourth Constitution draft is highlighted for discussion;
- Producing clarification documents, where a particularly important, currently agreed, change is compared with what the current Third Constitution outlines.
Encourage other regional engagement by;
- Create short informational sheets on our key regional functions, including the Open Parliament to the Cabinet, to publish as NationStates dispatches or standalone LoP Articles;
- Identifying areas of low engagement, and looping those into the ongoing constitutional discussion for how we can improve.
Continue and expand record-keeping efforts by;
- Identifying out-dated or inaccurate articles on our Library of Parliament;
- Working with current Library of Parliament contributors to update articles;
- Working with experienced LoP contributors/editors to create new accessible guides on how you can edit the LoP.
I hope to have your support in this election. Always feel free to get in touch with any questions.
