NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that in accordance with the Constitution and laws of the Social Liberal Union, an election for the office of Chancellor will be held for a period of one week within 48 hours after the close of nominations. Nominations open on Monday, 20 December 2021 at 05:00 UTC and close on Monday, 27 December 2021 at 05:00 UTC.

I, Anaaxes, am serving as Election Administrator, and I will dutifully and impartially execute the duties and powers of this position to the best of my ability.


ABOUT THE OFFICE:

The powers and duties of the Chancellor are detailed in Article 9 of the Constitution.

The term of office is five months, as specified in the certificate of election, which will be issued in due form once voting has concluded and the ballots are canvassed, tabulated, and certified according to law. The term for this office may only be renewed once consecutively.

QUALIFICATIONS AND NOMINATIONS:

Any Member State may, if eligible, nominate themselves for this office, or, subject to their acceptance, another eligible Member State. The requirements to hold the office are as follows:

1) Must be a current Member State in accordance with the Constitution; and
2) Must have been a Member State for at least two months; and
3) Must not have served two consecutive terms as Chancellor immediately preceding this election.

Candidates: Erynia And Draconia+

'+' denotes that the candidate has pledged to conduct their campaign in accordance with the Code of Fair Campaign Practices.

+++ OFFICIAL ELECTION ANNOUNCEMENT +++

Article 8, Section 7 of the SLU Constitution states that:

"In elections where only a sole winning nation will be elected, and if one or less candidate(s) have declared their candidacies for the position at the closing of nominations, the period for nominations is extended by one week. The Speaker or designee shall send a message to all members of the region encouraging them to run. If there are no candidates by the end of this week, nominations are extended until one candidate is available. If there is one candidate by the end of this week or at a later juncture, an approval election shall be held for that candidate to assume office."

Therefore, nominations were extended, by operation of law, from the original nominating deadline of Monday, 27 December 2021 at 05:00 UTC to the new nominating deadline of Monday, January 3, 2022 at 05:00 UTC. The incumbent shall continue in office as provided by law, which provides that they shall serve for a fixed term of 5 months and "until a successor qualifies."
