Welcome to the SLU Roundtable! Today we had a very special guest sit down and discuss NationStates and life. Courelli! What are all the regions you are associated with? Follow up: what are the positions you've held in each?
Currently, I'm only involved in SLU, NSLeft, and The Red Fleet. In SLU, I've served as Delegate thrice, Speaker of the Union twice, Minister of Immigration, of Foreign Affairs, and of Domestic Affairs, as well as several terms on the Law Commission. In NSLeft, I currently serve as Discord and Forum admin. In The Red Fleet, I am currently Fleet Admiral.
When did you start on NationStates?
I joined NationStates in April 2017, I believe.
Being the 12th, 15th, and 18th Delegate of the Social Liberal Union, not to mention other positions within the region, you've gotten to know quite a few people. Who are some of the friends you've made along the way?
I find myself reminiscing about the friends who have left, funnily enough. Bainius and Asairia from TVF, Diljan from The Internationale, Ivory Rhodes -- my old part-time rival :P -- from DSA. They all brought unique fun and unique challenges into my early time on NationStates.
As previously mentioned, you have been delegate quite a bit. Which term of all you have served is your favorite and why?
I think I enjoyed my very first Delegacy the most. The SLU -- and NationStates as a whole -- was blossoming into a new era defined by instant communication via Discord. It was great fun, whether I was joking with my friends or arguing with my opponents -- all in real time.
What would you classify yourself as politically?
Marxist-Leninist
As time goes on, people obviously change. How has the way you've led the SLU through those terms changed each time you ran?
I feel like I've mellowed out. I used to really enjoy, for the lack of a better word, "drama." Whether that was arguing with Odd Republic (now Ramelia) about domestic affairs, or with Ivory Rhodes about Foreign Affairs, my early months on NationStates were certainly...busy. As time has gone on, I've learned to wield political power and influence with a more steady hand.
You are also one of the few people that control NSLeft's accounts, yes? In regards to NSLeft, what do you believe will fix the inactivity that plagues the organization?
I don't know. Frankly, I just do what the political leadership of NSLeft -- the Central Committee and Regional Governments of Member Regions -- ask me to do. I see myself more as a steward of NSLeft's collective properties than as a leader of change-maker.
What would be one of the favorite moments you've had while serving in SLU government?
This is less of a specific moment and more of a category of moments: I like challenges. Whether that be finding an adequate way to deal with moderation disputes on Discord, or learning how to code, or revamping a Ministry initiative, I've thoroughly enjoyed how SLU government has enabled me to expand my horizons and gain new skills.
As you leave the delegacy this time, what do you believe your term/administration will remembered for/was successful at?
Stable recovery. In the aftermath of the December 2020 Coup, we didn't need a firebrand government who would shake things up -- we needed an experienced government who would administer the transitition to and growth of our new region. I think we did that well.
If you had one message for those who will read this, what would that be?
If you need anything -- advice, help, or just someone to vent to -- I'm always available! Telegram me on NationStates, or DM me on Discord for a faster reply :)
